On line advertising in the Fasion World.

Posted by Suzanne Claydon on at 3:24 pm. Filed under: News From Bagsdefined

What can make someone spend £100 on a T-shirt? Or £400 on a Cross Body Bag, when a replica is available for a fraction of that cost? What makes teenagers buy anything and everything with a certain label on it? Could it be the brand or is it advertising the brand correctly that counts?

It is this fanatic dedication to fashion and apparel brands that drove fashion brands to the Web. According to research results from Bagsdefined, released this July, e-commerce shoppers say more than 80% of the reasons behind their decision to purchase is outside the realm of their online experience. What matters to shoppers is the brand and what matters to etailers is how those brands are advertised.

One can easily convey a brand experience on the Web – look and feel, brand attributes, identifiers, and other cornerstones of a brand. But what about physical attributes of a Handbag.  Shoppers can look at a nice Handbag at bagsdefined, but they’re left with questions: Will it fit? Is the color exactly what’s shown on the computer screen or is it slightly darker or lighter? Will the Shoulder bag fit all my items within?

According to a June, 2001 article in Red Herring magazine, consumers cite their inability to try clothes on as their main reason for hesitating to buy clothing online. But sites have come up with some innovative ways to get around the fear of buying something that my not be sold.  “virtual models” where Shoppers can create a virtual model of their body to see how Handbags will fit. And this approach is helping – shoppers who use the feature are nearly 50% more likely to purchase, and they tend to spend 16% more in their average orders than shoppers who don’t use the virtual modeling technology.

Other sites have used technologies that enable online shoppers to visually zoom in on products, so that they can get a feel for fabrics, collars and other product attributes by getting a closer look. Bagsdefined is one such example. It may be a flat screen world but advertising in the fashion world is catching up with the real thing.

Hanbags and their Logos

Posted by Suzanne Claydon on at 2:57 pm. Filed under: News From Bagsdefined

This year Vogue is claiming that the “plain bag movement” in the UK as well as state side. However, a recent auction at Christie’s suggests a very different trend. Nine Hermès Birkin handbags sold just a few weeks ago through the renowned auction house for more than £30,000 apiece. This was followed up with the sale of a Vintage Guess Handbag for £1000!

The Birkin could be called plain or even dull, but it has a distinctive style that is hardly minimalist and can certainly catch the attention of most. These are large handbags to say the least, just a bit smaller than an attaché, and feature a bold metal bar with a lock – plain and simple.  The Hermès logo is not prominently displayed on the bag, it is distinctive and large enough to be recognized even from a distance by UK fashion lovers. One of the bags auctioned, a red alligator Birkin, sold for almost £50,000, more than most earn in a UK year!

Rather than making cutbacks in response to the government decree of austerity, many in London are embracing luxury goods more than ever. Selfridge’s claims that handbag sales are up from last year, and few of these totes are inexpensive. Even the so-called plain bags advocated by Vogue may cost more than £600 each with many starting at just £90.

logo designs define their companies, their brands, and their products. While the Birkin model may not bear the Hermès logo design, people associate it with its brand. Its brand would not be as strong without a beloved logo. Cross Body Bags may come in many different shapes and sizes but its the logo that catches the eye. Fossil bags and Guess Handbags have been very active in this respect.

You don’t have to be a 200-year old company to have a luxury logo design and brand that people will pay huge amounts to carry. Consider, for example, Mischa Barton Bags or Nica Bags. Both have made huge profits from trading for such a short amount of time. Designers claim that handbags take preference over even clothing and shoes for the stylish. In fact, most claim that the large logo bag rage isn’t going anywhere.  The UK has always been a forerunner in leather goods, and now the rest of the world is catching up with Shoulder Handbags high on the fashion lists too.  Handbags bearing luxury logo designs have already caught on the United States and mainland Europe, and buyers from other countries are trickling into the big name stores that line Bond Street and Sloane Street in London. While the UK was once the key market for luxury handbags, and really still is, countries such as Russia, China, and Brazil are catching on.

One of the key advantages that handbag brands hold is a logo design that withstands the test of time. A Hermès handbag from decades ago would not hold so much appeal if not for their well-known and timeless brand. Fiorelli bags have this principle well known as shown and work with  bagsdefined to display the principle. Clearly, while some may ditch the logo for most brands this remains a must have.

How to Take Care of your Leather Handbags

Posted by bagsdefined on July 18, 2011 at 3:10 pm. Filed under: News From Bagsdefined

The original arm candy, leather handbags look instantly luxurious and have the kind of classic style that can’t be achieved by any other kind of bag, but there’s one thing you always need to consider – maintenance. If you want to keep your bag in top condition it’s important to take proper care of it, and if you follow these tips it’ll look fabulous for years to come.

•    Use quality leather sprays to protect your bag from any marks, stains and scuffs, and if you re-apply a few times a year it’ll be kept in perfect condition.

•    Use a leather lotion to keep it moist. Leather can easily crack if it dries out so it’s important to treat it regularly, and if you use a quality product you’ll keep it looking good and will find it has an added lustre as well.

•    If cleaning is necessary, wipe down with a clean, damp cloth. Never use any harsh chemicals as these will easily damage it, and if any stains are apparent make sure to take your bag to a professional leather cleaner.

•    Store your leather handbags in breathable containers and NEVER in plastic. Leather needs to breathe and plastic bags can cause it to dry out, so store in a well-ventilated place ideally in a cotton bag or wrapped in cotton fabric.

•    Never use perfumes or hairsprays near your bag, as the chemicals contained within them can damage the leather and could lead to irreparable stains.

Upkeep is particularly important when dealing with expensive designer products such as Modalu handbags and Billy Bag purses, but if you follow these tips you can prolong the life of your leather handbags so they look stunning for years to come.
